#Cat growling at new kitten full
I know this is a process and it hasn’t even been a full 24 hours yet, but the hissing from Ellie and the fact that she’s much more slow and reluctant to eat when her bowl is near the door have me worried.Īm I overreacting/jumping to conclusions? Is there anything else I could be doing? We’re following the Jackson Galaxy method - Benji in a separate room for a few days, getting them used to each other’s scents with blankets and clothes they’ve touched, eating on opposite sides of the door, then swapping spaces, then introducing them through some kind of barrier. We blocked the door gap with towels and blankets that share his scent so Ellie could get used to them, but she hissed a few more times when she could hear them. But I did worry because sources I’ve read said it’s crucial that the cats don’t see each other until they’re more familiar. I didn’t notice a bristled tail or raised hair, I think she was more scared than angry. We followed the suggested advice of keeping Benji in a separate safe room but there’s a gap between the floor and the door big enough for Benji to stick his paws through, and Ellie hissed when she saw him. No shyness or fear at all - he loves both of us and wants to explore the apartment. We brought home Benji (5m/o male) yesterday.īenji is doing great so far. We wanted a second cat anyway and almost everyone told us most cats thrive when they have a friend. My boyfriend and I have had our first cat (Ellie, 1.5y/o female) for 6 months and because she’s always been so sweet and energetic, we figured she would like a playmate.
